We were so close
I loved you so much
You gave me chills
With every single touch
That seemed so long ago
How did we float apart?
You began to cheat on me
And you broke my heart
You said you were sorry
I believed you too
I needed you so much
I didn't know what to do
We drifted even further
Like ships in the night
You kept me from harm
And you kept me from fright
Soon your friends left you
And you ran away
You knew you'd regret it
And did 'til the last day
With nowhere to turn
You fell into a gang
Then your life exploded
It went up with a bang
You began to get high
You began to get stoned
I tried to help you
Every night when you phoned
I told you it was crazy
And you were pressing your luck
Even you now admitted it
But by then you were stuck
You were kicked out
By your family and folks
I took you in
Despite all the cruel jokes
I'm both mad and sad
As I sit in your bed
Where three nights ago you went crazy
And put a gun to your head
I want to hold on
Still I have to let go
Even now that you're gone
I still cherish you so
I know I'll get through
The rain and the thunder
But that won't change the fact
That you're six feet under
